Sky Sports announces measures to combat online hate and abuse | Hate Won't Stop Us

This is the message from Sky Sports presenters and reporters, who have united in supporting a new campaign aimed at raising awareness of online hate and abuse on social media.
At Sky Sports, everybody is welcome - and that's a message we are proud to share.
Inclusion is integral to Sky, and few activities bring people together like sport. Whether participating, watching the action live, or talking about the big event, we all deserve to get satisfaction, joy and entertainment out of the sports we love.
At Sky Sports we are committed to covering all aspects of sport.
We are committed to doing more to tackle racism, highlight racial injustice and support communities impacted by racism.
We are committed to capturing the excitement and passion of all sports. We will shine a light on the issues affecting under-represented groups in sport and be a force for good to help sports grow at all levels.
Sky is also committed to diversity in sport, both as an employer, broadcaster and publisher. As we say, everybody is welcome.
The social media companies are best placed to deal with harmful content on their platforms, and we would like them to do more. As a publisher on social media platforms it is difficult for us to monitor and manage every comment that is posted and take action against every abusive or hateful comment.
But, we will use the power of our reach and our voice - and the voices of our people - to highlight the scale of online hate and the damage that it can inflict upon our people, the guests on our broadcasts and our customers.
We are committed to inspiring change. We will try to remove all hateful and abusive comments from our posts on our own and on social media channels.
From October 1, 2020 we renew our commitment to try to make Sky Sports' website and our channels on social media platforms a place for comment and debate that is free of abuse, hate and profanity.
We will take the following action:
• Sky Sports will use the power of its reach and voice to highlight the scale of online hate and abuse and the damage that it can inflict upon people
• We will seek to remove as many abusive and hateful comments posted on and our channels on social media platforms as we can
• We will block users bringing hate to our comments sections on our website and channels on social media platforms
• We will report hate and abuse to the social media platforms
• We will report the most serious cases to the relevant authorities
• We strive to make our channels respectful places where sporting conversations thrive
• We will keep commissioning journalism that shines a light on social injustices and inequality in sport
• We will work with the social media platforms and policymakers to make their platforms safer and more respectful
We also need your help.
If you see a reply to Sky Sports posts and/or content with an expression of hate on the basis of race, colour, gender, nationality, ethnicity, disability, religion, sexuality, age or class please copy the URL to the hateful post or screengrab it and email us. The address can be found at this URL:
Together we will strive to make our social media accounts a safe space for all fans.
Hate won't stop us in our goal of celebrating sport for all and all for sport.

This is one of the dumbest videos I've ever seen. Do you honestly think someone twisted enough to write those comments are going to be deterred by Sky stupidly deciding to publicise and spread those comments. Idiotic videos like this will make the trolls very happy to see their hate messages being broadcast whilst decent people will be upset and horrified to know message like this are being left. The answer is not to give trolls free publicity, the answer is to introduce tough laws, track down the serious offenders and prosecute them. The technology to do this exists today.

Social media showed a reality that wasn't that obvious before. The fact that the are no circumstances on what you say on the internet lets people say whatever they want without even thinking first, which shows that there are so many people who have mental issues. That's sad...

.................Have to wet myself laughing at how all the petrolheads will be watching Scalextric next year and they will still shout down those 'conspiracy nuts'. The phonyvirus has been a cover for an agenda to change EVERYTHING, including all those sports you love. Empty football stadiums with dubbed-on cheering is hilarious to watch, whilst you listen to the fans whinging about how 'it's crap now.' After this will come virtual sports, with CGI football teams playing each other or computer-generated racing cars and cartoon drivers, though Lewis looks a cartoon at the best of times. Pat yourselves on the back as you lose your freedoms and your lives...

The angry ignorance will not win... being a decent person isn’t much to ask for. As a white man who never got any of this it hurts to see, no idea what’s it’s like to experience. I know hate though, and those people are cowards who can’t handle their own personal issues. It has nothing to do with the person it’s aimed at and everything to do with the lost person who said it.

We don't deserve social media. It has the power to do so much good, and hateful cowards decide to use it like this. In my opinion, it should just be stopped. Completely taken down until people learn to use it for good. We should learn to connect face to face again. Nobody has the ability to be this hateful to somebody's face. The human race would be better off as a whole without it.

I can´t believe what people write on social media sometimes. A lot of them have twisted minds and only want to shock others. I usually tend not to dignify those with an answer and let it pass. This message however is a strong one which more channels should take as an example - Respect!!! Note there are a lot of people that are respectfull and love what you do!!l Keep up the good work with head up high and don´t let those comments even remotely touch you in any way.

I thought motor racing was Nah, it's about woke politics now. Once upon a time, F1 was watched by macho petrol-heads who talked about drivers and cars and who was/is the best. Now they put 'woke' messages on the comments section. What a sad bunch of manginas the F1 fraternity have become.

It's deeply unpleasant that people doing no more than their job to entertain should be on the receiving end of verbal abuse, sometimes worse. There are times when hard words are required, if required, but even so should always be delivered with reason even when with passion... But making personal attacks or abusive comments simply because you can is never justified. There is after all another human being on the receiving end! I am sad to say there are bad and nasty people everywhere, because of course that is human nature. To say otherwise is to engage in the worst kind of delusion. So what is to be done? I don't know. Us "nasty" human beings have up to now been somewhat regulated by the necessity to face the person we are speaking with. That is no longer the case with the advent of modern communications. Maybe recognizing we are all personally a part of the problem and in doing our personal best to try to be better ourselves is the most positive action. People may say it is the rise of social media that is at fault, I am not on any social media platform other than NLcameras because I find the likes of Twitter and Facebook to be thoroughly poisonous places - poison does rub off too! But I can't help feeling the issue always has and likely always will be people not their tools. Can we fix ourselves? I don't know, likely not. Can we fix social media? How,? It is the bad workman not the tool that seems to be at fault. Do we have to accept we aren't collectively responsible enough to use such tools? Maybe... but those tools have become a lifeline for some. Maybe all we can do is to personally see to our own well-being: -If someone is abusing you cut yourself off from the means they are using to abuse you, frustrating though that may be. -When feeling "abused" consider: Is it actually someone's attempt to make a difficult but valid point, not liked by you? Regardless, my sympathies indeed. Being the recipient of unthinking abuse is deeply unpleasant and nobody deserves it. As a doctor I have had more than enough of it over the years, usually in person. Apologies to all for the ramble. If I have time on my hands I try to "add value" where I can in the hope it may be useful to someone.

As you have deleted all my other perfectly reasonable comments on the subject, it’s clear you are already censoring anyone who is very upset, or that disagrees with you taking money from and pushing Marxists. F1 used to be about racing, not politics. You will only wake up when nobody watches anymore, which is soon on your current trajectory.

People feel comfort in others despair, what makes them feel more confident in their hate speech is the barrier of the internet. The era we live in offers a life of little human interactions, and venting ones problems onto another with this barrier, makes these individuals feel safe. The issue is for those receiving this hatred don't have this comfort, they has anxiety and self-doubt. I just ask that if you feel down, you feel ashamed, you feel hatred, you feel bullied, you feel anxiety. Take a breath, breathe, think about what is fuelling these emotions. If it's an individual, ask are they okay? Help them, and don't pass the torch to someone else. If it's an advert you have seen, remember that you are perfect in your own way. If you are being bullied, what makes you different? What makes you unique? Being unique scares people, stand proud! If you feel alone, reach out, the people you love will always listen! If you feel let down, voice your emotions with positive feedback. Hatred is a virus, don't pass it on! Stop it!

Spreading hate online is the weakest form or an attack. Your so scared that you resort to leaving messages for people. Most of the time they will never know who you are or why you’re so angry but you feel good about being rude to people anonymously Edit when he said “I’ve come to expect it now, online” I didnt like that. That’s all social media, has been for a long time, people desperate for attention and people desperate to feel better about themselves. Nothing good has come from social media.

This is horrible. I can’t believe they deal with this everyday. Where is our humanity? It’s not only sporting events that makes us want to watch but the human stories brought to us by these dedicated journalists/panelists/pundits. These events could air without them but wouldn’t it by the same. Disagree with their comments or perceptions can happen and people might be wrong but nothing can justify degrading someone especially when you would never do it to their faces.

Sky only get this sort of abuse because they are against the people, stealing their sports and making them pay extortionate prices to see it.

Natalie Pinkham is one of the nicest F1 interviewer on TV, and people hate her ash she supported Lewis on the blm issue, i think its not fair, both of them have their rights and being influential they both decided to do a huge effort in speaking out about this troubling issue called racism that is still happening in 2020
