@b&srbck Yes,I agree.Seidl has been one of the best appointments the team has made in years.Yes,Ron Dennis took the team to it's earlier heights,but I was also just pointing out in reply to an earlier post, that there were other Americans involved with the story of McLaren,not just Zak Brown.

It’s more Andreas Seidl since he’s the team principal. Before him McLaren were being ran terribly with brown, boullier , the aero guy and Alonso all at the top and there was no one voice leading which there is now

Ron was responsible for their downfall. I'm glad McLaren got restructured. Teams need people like Andreas Seidl and Toto Wolff as team principals.

Ron wasn’t great when he came back. His methods of working don’t work in this era. Andreas Seidl has turned them around and they have 2 great drivers and neither of them hinder the team or hold the team to ransom like Alonso did. The results on track the past 2 seasons prove that and they’re not bigging themselves up like Renault did in 2019 where they claimed they would be getting podiums yet were nowhere near them

@b&srbck listen, I don’t care about the decisions or what he’s doing regarding McLaren. All I’m saying is for people in the US, F1 is not largely represented here. So to see someone from the US working for an F1 team is nice for us. I could care less about who’s making the calls or who’s making the impactful decisions. I’m a fan of McLaren, and it’s good to see they’re doing well right now. If you don’t like Brown then that’s fine, but nobody cares. In the past yes. But when he came back, he was terrible . Hadn’t adapted to the modern way of working and ways of motivating employees. Seidl has shown how to do it nowadays given how much McLaren have improved since he came in , brown moving to ceo, boullier being let go and letting the double edged sword Alonso go as well

Renault wasn’t the fastest engine plus was still unreliable . Mercedes was reliable and fast

Yeah... I remember 2014 and that McLaren car with almost zero sponsors, terrible bodywork and just "MP4-29" branding because there was no more title sponsor. I was never the biggest McLaren fan. I was a Ferrari fan when The Michael fought The Mika. But when I saw where McLaren was in 2014 it was dreadful. I realized how much of our fire as rival fan groups came from having that worthy rival on the other side and it was terrible to see where this great team was going. There's still naysayers today, but that revival is definitely rightly happening now which is good.

@b&srbck We will agree to disagree, if for no other reason than if Brown didn't get funding for the team Seidl who Brown hired wouldn't matter. But Seidl is at Mclaren because obviously Porsche exited LMP1 and Zak snapped him up. Money more than anything talks. By the way, you do realize that an American company owns F1 commercial rights, as for teams, HAAS is American owned, Williams is an American owned team, McLaren now has substantial American ownership through MSP Sports Capital which will end up with 33% of the team my the end of this year, and is open to more. At any rate it will be fun to watch this season.

@Adam Balding So Adam have you met Zak, have you spent any time with him. If it weren't for Zak McLaren would look like Williams today and be in the same position. Oh by the way, yes I have met Zak and spent time with him. Very nice man, treats sponsors and fans with class, and has managed to secure significant finances to keep McLaren in business. Racing in F1, IndyCar, and sportscars expanding the brand and selling road cars. 3rd in the constructors wasn't bad, the team beat the factory Renault team.

@Jacob E It's Ferrari they'll always be back. 2020 was just a blip due to rule breaking. This why McLarne have got a while to go to get back onto the level they belong like 90s & 2005-2008 where they could go toe to toe with Ferrari & not just eek out odd podiums. Also don't forget Aston Martin. McLaren just need to keep the pace & be ruthless come 2022 & take a risk if they really want glroy

2020 was an odd year without 2 Ferrari's taking podiums & Alex Albon drowning in the midfield despite his top car which cleared up 1 spot if Mercs/Max ever fell. Ferrari will be back & make it tougher for Aston/McLaren. But hope McLaren take it on the chin & grow, They have such a long way to go still to live up to their historic name tbh, Haven't had that since 2008 now & the 90s. Don't settle for 4th/5th or even 3rd tbh

Ofc Merc are gonna win. But it’s completely possible that McLaren could make a good step forward. This year’s a bit of a gamble really, could go well but it could also go badly.
