Dear Mr. Walker, I thank you for the life you lived, the passion you embodied, the lessons you subtly taught us all at one stage or another, during our shared infatuation with the greatest sport on the planet . . Formula 1. F1 has been and could only be F1 because of your humble, larger-than-life existence within it. I will always appreciate and forever remember the Great Sir Murray Walker! I have never met Murray, but have always love his enthusiastic commentary's, I "met " him briefly at the 1986 British Grand Prix at Brands Hatch, I took my autograph hunter 14 year old son to the event, at that time it was still possible to approach drivers and personnel if you were lucky enough to get a pit-pass, my son got just about everyones autograph, but not long before the start we encountered Murray, making his way to the commentary box, my son requested an autograph and Murray duly obliged, not just a quick signature, he asked my son his name, and wrote clearly "From Murray Walker, to Gary, best wishes" how can anyone not love a real gentleman like Murray?

Murray represents everything I loved about motor racing when I first became an enthusiast in the late 1980s. Martin took over Murray's commentating mantle beautifully and is second only to Murray as the greatest, English-speaking commentator ever (imo). The best partnership though was Murray and James. That was just pure perfect energy and balance between those two. Murray's one of the last of a priceless breed. It's a cliche but so apt with Murray....."they won't make 'em like that again".

    Maand geleden

murray brought the world of Motorsport and F1 in particular to the people that were not able to get to a race and in many cases his enthusiasm and character created just as much excitement as being there in person. back in the day he raced motorbikes so he had racing experience and it’s the best foundation for a commentator because they have been there themselves and they have personal experience of what they are speaking about

Martin Brundle and James Hunt (if he was still alive) were 2 people who were in a position to talk about Murray's true character. I watched formula 1 races when I was a child but stopped watching after Ayrton Senna's death but I was always interested in what Murray had to say about a race and the drivers themselves because whatever emotion he expressed, it was genuine and I respect and admire him for being a genuine and sincere man. RIP Murray.
